De meeste computers, monitoren en andere (professionele) audio-, video-, data- en netwerkapparaten beschikken over een IEC C14 stroomaansluiting. Hierop kunt u een netsnoer met IEC C13 connector aansluiten.

Geschikt voor 'koude' apparaten

De C13/C14 connectoren zijn geschikt voor 'koude' apparaten (toepassingen waarbij de pinnen niet warmer worden dan 70°C). Voor 'warme' apparaten (toepassingen waarbij de temperatuur van de pinnen op kan lopen tot 120°C) zoals grills, kookplaten, gourmet sets etc. heeft u C15/C16 connectoren nodig.

Maximaal 250V / 10A / 2500W

De C13/C14 connectoren zijn geclassificeerd voor gebruik bij 250 Volt spanning en stroom tot 10 Ampère. Dit vermenigvuldigen resulteert in een vermogen van maximaal 2500 Watt. Het kan zijn dat u een (zwaar) apparaat heeft met C13 aansluiting dat meer stroom nodig heeft dan 2500 Watt. Een vreemde combinatie, aangezien de C13 aansluiting hier nooit voor ontwikkeld is. Voor deze toepassingen kunt u daarom het beste een dikkere kabel met 3x 1,5mm² aders gebruiken. Op andere websites worden dit soort kabels als 16A kabels aangeboden, wat feitelijk onjuist is aangezien de C13 plug hier niet op beoordeeld is.
